Discussion Historical Artifact Sharing

Discussion Historical Artifact Sharing

Q Like me, you were probably trained in K-12 to think of history as something that happens in books. And, of course, to a large extent that's true. But history also includes the study and interpretation of material culture and artifacts (think: museum exhibits). Items of material culture can tell us a lot about our individual and collective pasts. Your house (or your parents' house or your grandparents' house...) probably contains many artifacts, though you probably don't think of them that way. o An old car? That's an artifact. o A painting or portrait on the wall? That's an artifact. o A pot in the kitchen or an old coat in the closet? Those are artifacts too. o Even the photos on your phone are artifacts (assuming they stick around). In your post here, EMBED a picture of an artifact from your life, and reflect on how it connects to your heritage. Consider sharing what it is, where it’s from, how it came into your experience/possession and/or a memory connected to it. Be careful to embed your photo (Links to an external site.), don't just upload a file (because then we have to download it to see it). Not sure how to embed your picture so everyone can easily see it? Here's how: To further the cohesiveness of our community, replies to peers are always welcomed & encouraged, but not required. Checklist for full points: Make sure your submission checks off each of these boxes in order to receive full credit. • Did you embed a photo of your artifact? • Is your reflection about your artifact at least 150 words long (no maximum). • Is what you're submitting college-level writing including, but not limited to correct spelling, capitalization, grammar, usage, citations, etc.? (In other words, please remember that the writing skills you honed in English VO1A apply to the work you're submitting in this class too.) How Assignments Are Graded: Submissions that answer each prompt posed and check off every box on the checklist above will be marked "complete" and receive full credit. Answers that skip one or more prompts and/or do not check off every box on the checklist above will be marked "incomplete" and will receive 1/10 points. If nothing is submitted, a zero will be entered in the grade book to indicate "missing".

Whenever there is the term artifact I directly connect with this pendant. I have chosen this pendant as an artifact because it is not only emotionally connected with me, but also has historical importance. In my family, this is the symbol of power and responsibility and belongs to several generations.
